Scope and Content

This one-story frame building was the office of Dr. Edmund Ravenel (1797-1870). It was given to Historic Charleston Foundation in 1964 by Mrs. Ransom D. Hooker, in memory of her husband. (Source: Information for Guides of Historic Charleston) Three files contain documentation of the easement on the property including related correspondence and Confirmation of Understanding; Part I certification (National Register); IRS form 8283; annual inspection reports, requests for alterations, and correspondence related to the management of the property; brief notes by Samuel G. Stoney about Dr. Edmund Ravenel; handwritten (staff?) historical/chain-of-title research information; copy of HCF easement information card (TMS number and tax information); correspondence and other documentation related to the conveyance of the property to HCF, including original Title re: HCF's acquisition; photocopy of photo of house.
