In 1945, Kenneth Chorley, President of Colonial Williamsburg, delivered this address to the Carolina Art Association, calling for the creation of a foundation to "take the initiative in and to coordinate all the activities of your preservation and educational programs." In 1947, Historic Charleston Foundation was incorporated.
