Scope and Content

Constructed ca. 1838, partially demolished in 1976. John Whiting, a merchant, built the structure to replace an earlier building lost in the great fire of 1838. A combined commercial-residential building, with a shop on the first level and residence on the upper levels. No additional building history on file. Needs further research. File contains two DYKYC articles about the loss of buildings on Meeting Street (1976) and about 252 Meeting Street (1981) DYKYC). No photos on file.
