MEETING.286.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1807; restored and rehabilitated 1984. The lone survivor of a splendid group of Federal style houses in the area of Meeting and George Streets, this residence was constructed for the spinster Abigail Noyer in 1807. Passed to Dr. A.C. Wildhagen, who kept an office on the ground floor, the house stayed in the hands of his descendants until the early-20th century, when it became a drugstore and seven apartments. Subsequent changes led to enclosures of the piazzas and a ground floor storefront for Central Sundries Drug Store. Restoration in recent years included full replication of the piazzas and a truncated version of the old piazza screen. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
File contains historical research report by Louis Green (1969); newspaper articles (1985 DYKYC and 1984 articles about a fire at the building).Collection
