MEETING.298-300.1Scope and Content
298 Meeting Street constructed ca. 1824; renovated 1859, 1941; rehabilitated 1985. 300 Meeting Street constructed 1853; rehabilitated 1985. James Gibson built 298 Meeting Street in about 1824 on a large lot that also included 300 Meeting Street. The building took its present form in 1859 after its sale to Caleb Fronenberger, who remodeled it in the Italianate style with an addition that gave its roofline curious perpendicular gables and an arched Italianate-style center doorway. The site was subdivided in 1847. Abigail Levy purchased the new lot at 300 Meeting Street and constructed a simple wood single house in 1853 as a tenement. The tall Italianate gable end that masks the roofline behind what is probably a later addition.
File contains brief house history (probably authored by Preservation Society); newspaper articles (1989).
