The Statical Experiments of Dr. John Lining, 1740, Charlestown, South CarolinaEntry/Object ID
BROAD.106.003Secondary Title
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of LondonDescription
According to the introduction to this reprint, written by Joseph I. Waring, in 1740, Lining began to conduct "statical experiments" on himself and sent his observations to the royal society of London, in which they were published in its Transactions of 1742-43. These investigations proved to be a disappointing effort to establish connection between the influence of weather conditions on bodily functions and thus on disease.
