Scope and Content

Located at the east end of Gillon Street, 9 Mid-Atlantic Wharf survives, although it was given a Colonial Revival style facade in a 1941 renovation. Headquarters of the Carolina Shipping Company. File contains newspaper articles (1961-2001); portion of historic plat showing the building (plat otherwise unidentified) and Sanborn Map (1884); photocopy of photo (1960s?); description of Atlantic Wharf from publication (unattributed, undated); correspondence related to the National Register status (1980s), portion of certification application, SCDAH recommendation; structural evaluation by Wright Padgett Christopher (incudes photos) and Evans & Schmidt Architects report (includes brief history of building) (missing exhibits); correspondence and documentation related to proposed demolition of the building (2001); architectural plans for the development of Factors Walk at 9 Mid-Atlantic Wharf and development guidelines (2002). Documentation related to the legal action "HCF vs. Leonard Krawcheck, et al.," regarding zoning violations and planned structural alterations (1991-1994) available on PDF.
