MONTAGU.043-45.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1897-1902. Gertrude A. Mordecai, who lived at 93 Rutledge Avenue, built these identical side-hall-plan houses in the Queen Anne style around the turn of the century. Used as rental property through much of their early history, the two-story houses retain double-level front bay windows and Queen Anne-style double-tiered piazzas with spindle-work detailing. Original L-shaped wings intersect with the rear ends of the piazzas on both houses. The Deveaux family rented 45 Montagu Street prior to their move to 39 Montagu Street a few years later.
