Constructed between 1919 and 1922. Charleston mayor Tristan T. Hyde, through his Equitable Real Estate Company, acquired this lot by 1902, conveying the property to his son a few years later. Another family member, Mabel Hyde, built the dwelling between 1919 and 1922. Equitable Real Estate Company built 51 Montagu by 1902 and conveyed it within a few years to Frank M. Smith.
