MURRAY.036.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1938. Dr. Archibald Baker Jr., son of the founder of Baker Memorial Hospital and himself a prominent Charleston physician, built this Colonial Revival house with Neoclassical overtones in 1938. A pedimented portico with Temple of the Winds columns and an oval window in the tympanum dominate the five-bay facade. A doorway surmounted by an elliptical transom serves as the main entry for this central-hall-plan dwelling.
Three files contain documentation of the easement on the property including related correspondence; Part I certification (National Register) (unsigned, determination not indicated); IRS form 8283; BAR application (1997); plat (1986); FOHG house history (2003); newspaper articles (including 1938 DYKYC); Deed of Conveyance (Walsh to Fairey) and photocopy of associated plat (1997); B&W copies of photos of interior rooms (see 2015.027.3a-e).
