MURRAY.048.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1929. A large Neoclassical Revival portico with attenuated columns fronts a brick house constructed for a leading Charleston cotton exporting family about 1929. A Georgian Revival style door architrave provides entry into this building, reflecting the mix of precedents used in large traditional houses in the early 20th century. In 1942, while stationed in Charleston, Lt. John F. Kennedy lived in the garage apartment at the rear of the lot.
