Scope and Content

Constructed ca. 1909; rehabilitated as condominiums 1983. Henry Oliver, contractor. A series of buildings formerly occupying this site, including a double tenement of four stories, another four story structure, and a corner two-story building, were damaged in the earthquake of 1886. By the late-19th century these had been used as a hotel, a restaurant, a billiard parlor, and upper-floor residences. Walker, Evans, and Cogswell, engravers and stationers in the offices next door at 117 East Bay Street and around the block at 3 Broad Street, built this as their new printing plant by 1909. File contains excerpt from (presumably) the developer's plan, 1983, containing brief history of building; newspaper article about the building's renovation (1984); advertisement for Walker Evans & Cogswell Stationers with illustration of both 109 East Bay Street and 3 Broad Street (date and source not indicated).
