NEW.021.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1880. Brothers James and Manning Simons built this frame house for $3,500. James Simons resided on the property for only 3 years, but the family retained ownership and rented the house until 1920. Dr. Eugene L. Jagar, a professor of neurology at the Medical Collage, purchased the property in 1925 and lived there for 50 years. A closed gable roof and front bay window with surmounting balustrade and a paneled base ornament a facade that is otherwise typical of the side-hall, double-parlor houses on New Street.
