Surveys Philadelphia still-life painting from the Schwarz Philadelphia Gallery's inventory. Among the strengths of the collection are ten paintings by the Peales and their circle, including Raphaelle Peale's recently discovered masterpiece on the cover, a major George Cope painting of historical importance, a fine and large work by William Michael Harnett, a previously unrecorded office board painting by John Frederick Peto, two Earl Horter Cubist watercolors, key works by Charles Demuth and Charles Sheeler, and a Jefferson David Chalfant trompe l'oeil.
