Among the strengths of the collection are ten paintings by the Peales and their circle, including Raphaelle Peale's recently discovered masterpiece on the cover, a major George Cope painting of historical importance, a fine and large work by William Michael Harnett, a previously unrecorded office board painting by John Frederick Peto, two Earl Horter Cubist watercolors, key works by Charles Demuth and Charles Sheeler, and a Jefferson David Chalfant trompe l'oeil. 128 p., ill.
