ORANGE.007.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1769; altered circa 1850; restored and renovated late-1980s. Charles Pinckney, a noted colonial jurist and father of a signer of the Constitution, built this 2½ story, weatherboarded, double-pile dwelling. Although the house retains much of its original detailing, including an early front portico, its interior was altered in the mid-19th century. Early plats show an extensive garden area at the rear, as well as a work yard adjacent to the surviving dependencies along the north side of the property.
File contains FOHG house history (1997; FOHG garden history (2001); newspaper articles (including 1968 DYKYC); photo on page from Preservation Progress (Nov. 1970); photocopy of plat showing work yard and garden; measured second floor plan; historical/chain-of-title research notes (undated, unattributed).Collection
