Great British Paintings from American Collections: Holbein to HockneyEntry/Object ID
2005.003.0013Description
Americans have been the most avid collectors of British art outside Britain. The present exhibition includes some of the most familiar images of British art but also important works that are less well known than they deserve, largely because previous exhibitions and books on British art have tended to draw upon British collections. The chief contributors to the exhibition are Paul Mellon and Henry E. Huntington.
