Built in 1742 by Benjamin Stiles, a pioneer planter on James Island, the house was a vital plantation during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Three files contain documentation of the easement on the property (Open Space easement), including correspondence related to the easement donation; Part I certification (National Register) dated 1974 (pre-dates easement); correspondence related to the management of the property; requests for alterations; excerpt from research report (Mansfield, 1986).
