LENWOOD.084.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1800. Also known as 131 Tradd Street, this is a 2-story masonry residence above a finished ground-level basement. The original construction was a Charleston single house with two rooms to a floor divided by the entry/stairhall. In the mid-to-late 19th century a wing was added across the rear of the house, projecting beyond the original core at both sides.
File contains narrative history and supporting documentation (maps, plats) prepared by Sarah Fick (2005); architectural drawings by Glenn Keyes (2004) "Alterations to the Richards Residence" including photocopies of photos, presumably submitted to BAR (if so, no indication of approval status); Rosen and Associates inspection report (1998). FOHG house history (1970); Sarah Fick Narratives (w/References and w/o) House History ca. 2000 (8 pages); Maps: Phoenix Map (1788), Portion of the Grand Model of Charles Towne, Bridgens and Allen (1852) Plat of 131 Tradd showing 3-story house with 2 story outbuildings (1858), Charles Parker's Survey of 131 Tradd (1858); McCrady Lamblé Block Plat (1882); Sanborn Maps 1888, 1902, 1944), 131 Tradd Street Manigault Plat shows 86 Lenwood (1948); Newspapers advertisements 1762-1858; Book and Newspaper articles 1900s; Letter to major and aldreman (1918); Room by Room Inventory of Francis Simmons (of 14 Legare, separated spouse of Sarah Ruth Lowndes Simmons).*I saw a notation online that SRS was living at 60 Tradd at the time of Francis's death according to a newspaper announcements.
