PINCKNEY.046.1Scope and Content
The finest surviving house of the fire of 1861 is 46 Pinckney Street, built in 1852 by Jacob Rabb after he purchased the lot from the neighboring Methodist Episcopal Church. After removing an old engine house from the site, he seems to have constructed the present building, a typical brick single house with a pilastered brick gable end and slate roof. As one of the only antebellum brick dwellings surviving on the street, the Rabb House stands out from the neighboring industrial structures and simple wooden dwellings constructed after the Civil War.
Three files contain documentation of the easement on the property including related correspondence and Confirmation of Understanding; Part I certification (National Register); IRS form 8283; narrative history (undated); newspaper article (1995) about buildings earning Carolopolis Award; photocopies of various historic plats; photocopies of various titles; 1992 property appraisal.
The files may eventually annual inspection reports, requests for alterations, and correspondence related to the management of the property. See Easement Manager's working files for more information.
See Easement Documentation Photo Files for easement donation photographs (Exh. B to Deed of Conservation Easement) and Covenant/Easement Inspection Photo Files for inspection photography.
