2 Pitt Street (Basile Lanneau House)Entry/Object ID
PITT.002.1Scope and Content
Constructed before 1788. Built by Basile Lanneau, a tanner and currier, this 2½ story frame single house formerly stood at 34 St. Philip Street. It was moved by the Preservation Society of Charleston in 1974 to prevent its destruction for a city parking garage. (A new garage and retail stores replaced the original garage in the early 2000s.) By coincidence, the house Lanneau built on St. Philip Street is now across the street from several houses that were also built by Lanneau and his family. (Tour Guide Manual, 2011)
