3 Pitt Street (Basile Lanneau House)Entry/Object ID
PITT.003.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1790-1820; restored 1970s. Basile Lanneau, a tanner and currier, bought this property before the Revolution but apparently did not built on it until the late-18th century. The original 2-story, wood single house received a third story addition and a double-tiered Greek Revival piazza in the mid-1800s. An Italianate door hood was added to the piazza door screen in the late-19th century and the building was eventually converted into apartments. Badly deteriorated from neglect by the 1970s, the house was subsequently restored.
File contains handwritten staff research "source notes" (scant); newspaper article about the request to demolish the building (undated).Collection
