This two-story Victorian commercial building was built in 1883 by Christopher Poppenheim, a hardware merchant, as his place of business. His store remained here until 1892, when he built and occupied the larger building at 363-365 King Street. Henry Oliver was the contractor.
File contains 20th century occupancy history from Old Codgers' Charleston Address Book; newspaper article (DYKYC, 1982); excerpt from King Street Facade Program; building history from Information for Guides of Historic Charleston; Rosen and Associates (engineers) inspection reports (2007).
