The Historical Writings of Henry A.M. Smith: Vol. IDescription
One of three volumes of articles which appeared in the South Carolina Historical (and Genealogical) Magazine between 1917 and 1928. Volume 1 describes the Proprietors' granting of large tracts of land to landgraves and cassiques, tracing the divisions of those tracts into plantations and the descent of ownership. The maps which accompany the articles give clear geographical representations of the size, shape, and spatial configurations of the plantations within former baronies.
Includes Ashley, Fairlawn, Corpses, Wadboo, Seewee, Winyah, Boone's, Tomotley, Ashepoo, Landgrave Ketelby's, Quenby, and the Eastern Branch of the Cooper River.
