Description

One of several sessions of the Architectural Forum, held as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Historic Charleston Foundation. Three presentations: "Charleston: In Search of Authenticity": NY Times architecture critic and New Yorker writer Paul Goldberger speaks about what makes Charleston's architecture authentic. "Preservation Stewardship and Leadership: Presentation of 1997 Preservation Awards": Carter Hudgins, then Executive Director of Historic Charleston Foundation, presents the Stoney Craftsmanship Award to Herbert DeCosta; the Robert N.S. and Patti Foos Whitlaw Award to Don Cameron and the Charleston Housing Authority for its restoration of the William Enston Home, to Horry Parker and the Vestry of the St. James Goose Creek Church for its restoration of St. James Goose Creek Church, and to George McDaniel and the Drayton Hall staff for its advocacy for the Ashley River. Presentation of "The Buildings of Charleston": Jonathan Poston introduces his new book, "The Buildings of Charleston," and presents copies to the six women to whom the book is dedicated, each former HCF trustees: Juliette Wiles Staats, Dorothy Porcher Legge, Elizabeth Gadsden Woodward, Patti Foos Whitelaw, Elizabeth Jenkins Young, Juliette Wiles Staats, and Frances Edmunds. 1 videodisc (DVD) : 96 min.
