Charleston Made Clothes Press/ Desk C.1800. Mahogany. and Mahogany veneers, secondary woods untested but including cypress. Top with Two Solid Wood Doors Over Lower Section of Four Drawers, the Top Drawer Opening To Create a Desk. American Eagle and Thirteen Stars on Pediment. Owned By John Rutledge. Restored By Techne Group in 1990. In two sections, the base on straight bracket feet with two short and two log cock-beaded drawers. The upper section with removeable swan's neck pediment with dentils. The interior fitted with five sliding shelves.Collection

Scope of work: Completed Conservation treatment of Federal Period secretary/press:
A. Pediment.
1. Consolidate frame
2. Tighten veneers
3. Replace missing veneers
4. Straighten urn and tighten
5. Tighten loose inlay borders
6.Fabricate missing string inlay
7. Repair and tighten inlaid corner panels.
B. Upper Cabinet.
1. Consolidate case back and frame
2. Repair sides
3. Doors-straighten, repair, tighten string inlay, fabricate and replace where necessary repair and/or replace key escutcheons. repair mouldigs
4. Tighten and fit sliding shelves
C. Lower Cabinet.
1. Consolidate frame and feet
2. Tighten loose veneers, fabricate new pieces where necessary
3. Tighten loose string inlay, replace where necessary.
4. Re-align drawers and runners and square
5. Replace missing key escutcheons.
6. Interior-adjust fall board mechanism, re-allign drawers, tighten cubby mouldings, repair and replace where necessary string inlay, aligh and re-hang drawer, duplecate and'or replace with old drawer pulls. re-allign and repair desk runners.
7. Possibly replace drawer pulls

1. Clean grime and abrasion damage
