QUEEN.162.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1852. On its original sale in 1852 to George Mansfield, this site was described as a "low water lot." Maria Fox, who bought the property in 1852, apparently began construction of the present house, which she was forced to convey a year later to Capt. Arthur Magee, holder of a mortgage on the house. Magee died within a year, but his widow lived here until 1893. Dogtoothed brickwork, a wrought-iron balcony, and a pair of banded chimneys characterize the dwelling as well as the slightly taller exposed brick single house to the east at 160 Queen Street, owned and occupied in 1860 by Henry Campsen.
File contains scant chain-of-title research notes (1852-1893); handwritten staff research "source notes."Collection
