RUTLEDGE.063.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1922. This apartment building is set back at a diagonal on a corner lot at Beaufain Street and Rutledge Avenue. It has Italian villa detailing with a bracketed cornice and low-pitched roof. The front entry is Italian Renaissance in style with overtones of Spanish Colonial and Craftsman features. It was constructed by Edward J. Murphy, who also built the Fort Sumter Hotel at The Battery. The apartments are fireproof, made entirely of concrete, brick and tile.
File contains newspaper article about the restoration of the building (with photo) (1974); letter from HCF regarding its opposition to zoning variances (2005); Rosen and Associates (engineers) inspection reports dated 2005 regarding the reestablishment of a rooftop terrace and dated 2006 regarding alterations at a common area between two units.Collection
