RUTLEDGE.104.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1816. Edisto Island planter Thomas B. Seabrook, who completed the house at 95 Rutledge Avenue, built this 3½ story dwelling on a high foundation for himself in about 1816. The house retains arched piazzas of its Neoclassical period as well as a pediment with a lunette roof window. Queen Anne style window heads, a bracketed Queen Anne cornice, and a 3-story tower with triple bracketing, shingling, and a conical bell-shaped roof were probably added by Arthur A. Lynah in the late 1880s. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
