Scope and Content

The original section of this house was built in 1855-56 by Henry Michelmann, a carpenter who had a business on the corner of Bogard and Coming Street. HCF purchased the house in 1994 when it was on the verge of demolition by neglect and became HCF's second restoration project through the Neighborhood Impact Initiative. Three files contain documentation of the covenant on the property; appraisal report; Board of Adjustment-Zoning application (property line adjustment); annual inspection reports; correspondence and other documentation related to the sale and management of the property; correspondence and other documentation related to HCF's purchase and restoration of the property; correspondence related to the Neighborhood Impact Initiative and Crafts Training Program; plat; realtor sales sheets (illustrated); data sheet for CharlestonWISE Impact Project (Sustainability Institute) that includes construction date, square footage, number of stories, building orientation, system materials/types, Sanborn Map research notes, and additions/alterations notes (Mariah Schwartz, 2011).
