Typed on back of Photos B and C: "The Charleston Division offices of the Southern Railway System of Charleston, S.C., occupies this 150-year-old mansion once owned by William Aiken, first president of the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company, a predecessor of the Southern. Later occupied by his son, Governor Aiken of South Carolina, it was acquired by the SCC&RR Co. in 1830 and is now one of the showplaces of Charleston."
