Description

Sofa 1820/1850 Mahogany veneer and white pine seconardy wood with upholstery French cake (?) under-upholstery. Fabric, possibly a French Aubusson, is heraldic pattern in a leaf and branch intertwined cartouch, there are six repeats of fabric on back with herald running horizontally and not upright; reverse fabric shows stripe of pink, yellow brown and tourquoise blue. All feet have casters; stuffing is of horsehair, back is tufted with four rows of buttons. The sofa is of mahagany veneer on a pine frame. There are square nail heads on frame and rounded nail heads on upholstery on top.

Parts that were removed during restoration in 2004 are located in one box at the NRH, labeled as such. Includes nails, buttons, parts of arm support, and later modifications of sofa (20th century - before 1996). The sofa is in eleven pieces; veneer loss at upper back rail, back foot is separated, but available; remnants on proper right are of another fabric showing green, red, orange white and blue. four rows of buttons with 15 remaining;
