SMITH.058.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1840-50. Mary and Henry Raymond completed this 3½ story stuccoed brick Charleston single house just a few years before selling it to John Daly, a boot and shoe dealer at 306 King Street. Although the lower story of the side piazza remains open, enclosures of the second story piazza and the remnant of the third story piazza were probably done at the turn of the 20th century. At that time the house was owned by Thomas Reynolds, a granite and marble worker, who raised eight children and several grandchildren in the house. Reynolds added marble tiles to the piazza, the interior foyer, and other spots within the building. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
