96 Smith Street (Richard Holloway House)Entry/Object ID
SMITH.096.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1825. This small frame single house was built by Richard Holloway, a free black master carpenter. It is similar to the house at 227 Calhoun Street that was also built by Holloway; both were built as investments. At his death in 1843, Holloway had accumulated some 20 houses, distinctive features of which are the Palladian windows in the front gables and piazzas under the main roofs.
