Constructed ca. 1870. Built for Dr. Thomas E. Dr. Miller was one of the foremost African American leaders in Reconstruction South Carolina. A member of the fifty-first U.S. Congress, he was the founder and first president of South Carolina State College. The house remained in the Miller family until 1950. File contains graduate student report (R. Shelton Converse, 2009) on the history of 78 Radcliffe Street and 156 Smith Street (including historical/chain-of-title research, maps, photos, and other supporting documentation). No photos on file.
