57 Society Street (William McElheran House)Entry/Object ID
SOCIETY.057.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1851. William McElheran rebuilt on this site after the fire and sold the dwelling with its appurtenances to James McClary, a blacksmith. McClary then lived at 24 Wentworth Street and apparently used this house as an investment. 57 Society Street is a three-story Charleston single house similar to 59 Society Street, another of the several dwellings in this area constructed by Jonah M. Venning as tenements after the fire of 1838.
