SOCIETY.075.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1839. Mary Elizabeth Burckmeyer Elsworth Eckhardt rebuilt almost immediately after the fire on this site. Her 3-story stuccoed brick single house rises to a flat roof disguised by a banded parapet. A later Italianate style doorway stands in the screen of the double-tiered piazza. The dwelling was purchased in the 1850s by Dr. John Burckmeyer Patrick, a dentist who perfected several new dental techniques. Patrick also built the two-story Italianate style struction with pedimented second-story window and balcony at 82 Society Street as his office. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
