SBATTERY.065.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1931. John D. Newcomer, architect. This 2½ story brick house sits on land that was reclaimed in the second decade of the 20th century. Bird's Shipyard was located here when the street was known as South Bay. The house sits on two lots acquired by Dr. and Mrs. J. Sumter Rhame who had the house built in 1931. It represents a fine interpretation of the Colonial Revival style.
File contains FOHG house histories (1992, 1998, 2003, 2009); notes about Hurricane Hugo damage (undated, unattributed); Rosen and Associates (engineers) report on the yard gate columns (2006); newspaper articles (DYKYC, 1931); newspaper article about John Newcomer (DYKYC, 1971).
