The prosperous sawmill owner, William R. Welling, built 74 Spring in 1898 as an investment. The style of the house evolved from the "Carpenter's Gothic" of the mid-19th century and turned into "gingerbread." File contains newspaper article (undated DYKYC) about the approval to demolish the house. No image on file.
