Description

One wicker corner chair, of rectilinear design, with designs executed primarily in reed, with other elements of wood, cane and rattan. The skirt and back exhibit vertical reed and ball work, the balls creating a diamond motif. The corners and outside edges display scrolls of reed. The original label of the Heywood-Wakefield Company is located on the back rail. The Heywood-Wakefield Company was in operation from 1897-1930, and was located in Boston with retail outlets in New Your City, Chicago, and San Francisco. The chair is in good condition, with only one vertical reed and ball piece missing from the right back of the chair. The chair was originally located in the Aiken-Rhett House in Charleston, South Carolina. Chair having V-shaped and rolled crest rail, over spindle and scroll decorated back, on square seat, over apron with conforming spindle and scroll decoration, on tapered legs with knob and bun feet.
