32-34 State Street (Henry Seedorf Tenements)Entry/Object ID
STATE.032-34.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1858-60. A soda water manufacturer and grocer, whose principal store operated from his building at 49 Elizabeth Street, constructed this double tenement after acquiring the site of two "burnt" wooden buildings in 1858. The asymmetrical first floors hint at the ground-story commercial uses. The stuccoed brick facade boasts decorative scoring, a belt course between floors, and a banded parapet with vertical openings. The present doors, added by the early-20th century, fill a first floor opening at the center that extended from the sidewalk to the rear yard.
