Mahogany double bed with mahogany veneer, probably c. 1840-50. Empire styling-rectangular upright corner posts with applied molding on outside edge forming rectangular panel. Simple shaped foot. Curved cap with carved floral decoration. Rounded crest rail between the posts on bothe head and feet. Footboard slightly lower than headboard, but of identical design and decoration. Twelve full turned spindles and two half spindles on both head and foot. Plain siderails with a carved leaf design decpratopm applied to curved decorative panels attached at top edge of rail on both top and bottom ends of rail where rail joins headboard and footboard. Large screw eye on inside edge of head and foot boards for securing mosquito netting frame.Collection
