SMITH.039.1Description
B&W photograph of the cross gables and corner turret of 39 Smith Street (Henrietta Kelly House).
Constructed ca. 1898; restored 1990s. Henrietta Kelly, owner and operator of Miss Kelly's School next door at 151 Wentworth Street, built the present Queen Anne style house with cross gables, corner turret, and encircling front piazza. For years this was one of the few Charleston Victorian houses to be painted in a palette reminiscent of its era of construction. It was rented for many years to the Hornik family, dry goods merchants. (Buildings of Charleston, p. 562-563.)Collection
