Mahogany with mahogany veneer with inlay
Hepplewhite style, mahogany, mahogany veneer with inlay. Charleston, SC. circa 1800.
Round-corner, Ellipitical Front
Pair D-shaped card tables, the tops with banded inlays, interior tops with single string inlay and table surface sides with two strings of inlay. Apron with central inlaid rectangular panel of light wood within which is an oval mahogany inlay wiht two surrounding string inlays. Five part string inlay rectangles on each side of central panel and on sides. Thress part string inlay at base of apron Four tapering legs with string inlaid panels, banded cuffs. Vertical rectangular inlaid panels at top of each leg. 75.6.1 has swing action in right rear leg. 75.6.2 has swing action in left rear leg.
Construction: Frame: Coring: Triple laminated in white pine. Rear rail joinery: Dovetailed to frame at fly end, glued to fly frame at fixed end. Fixed-leg to frame joinery: Saddle joints. Frame bracing: None. Fly frame configuration: Single fly. Fly frame attachment: Mortised to fixed leg and glued to inner frame with a spacer between. Fly leg-to-frame configuration: Stile notched to overlap frame.Collection
