Shelf clock with stand, an extremely fine and rare Federal carved mahogany and eglomise clock, by John H. Stowell, Charlestown, Massachusetts, circa 1810-1815. In three sections, having shaped pediment with scroll terminals flanking rectangular plinth with shaped brass finial, above eglomise decorated glazed door with floral decoration on red ground; gilt acanthus leaf and harp design around white convex face with Roman numerals; when single door is open exposes paper label attached to interior lower left corner of case, "John J. Stowell/Clock and Watch maker/ Charlestown/Mas.,/1834' over a waisted eglomise clear pendulum case having oval center opening exposing pendulum as it swings, over molded base on brass ball feet fitted with cylindrical drop that fits into wall bracket having rectangular top over shape and waisted standard terminating with drop acorn-shaped finial. Clock having original movement and in working order.Collection
