Description

Black walnut clerk's stool, 1800-1850, windsor style. American, possibly South Carolina due to use of walnut. Four rounded legs connected with rounded cross-braces support round seat. Tenoned construction and use of tiny nails. Scribe marks are visible on underside of seat indicating the placement of the legs. "240" marked in chalk on underside of seat.

Notes

top stained, blackened, and spotted from water and mold. Most likely used as a plant-stand later in its life. Nicks, scratches, gouges over all of the stool - top, legs, and feet. Green paint drips on one leg, white on another.
