TRADD.049.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1731; altered 1793. Situated on lot 41 of the Grand Modell, this Georgian town house is one of the earliest extant structures in the Old and Historic District and most likely replaced a wooden structure on the site when it was erected. The property was originally owned by Col. George Chicken, a noted public figure instrumental in colonial Indian policy. The present Adamesque woodwork was added after the Inglesby family purchased the house in 1793. The four-bay facade is ornamented by corner-quoining, and the second-story balcony was added in the early-19th century. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
File contains FOHG house history (1980s?); zoning submittal package regarding request for special exception variance to allow restoration of former piazza (2000) (no indication as to outcome); historical research report (Alexandra Jones, Houselore, 2018).Collection
