72/74 Tradd Street Ownership History ScrapbookEntry/Object ID
2017.019.1Scope and Content
Compilation of original deeds, titles, and other documents related to the transfer, sale, and ownership of the double tenement at 72-74 Tradd Street, known as the Fotheringham-McNeil Tenements. Documents span from 1765 to 1961, likely representing the entire history of the ownership of the double tenement throughout that time period. Also includes blueprints and photographs.
The scrapbook was created ca. 1963 by Thomas (Tommy) Thornhill who owned the house from 1958 to 1980. He had received the documents from the previous owner (Eola Willis) at the time he purchased the house. Mr. Thornhill then sent the documents to the South Carolina Department of Archives & History, which repaired damaged documents and created plastic sleeve enclosures in which to house the documents.
Circa 1958 plat glued to the inside of the front cover. Photographs and a document outlining the Willis family ownership glued to the inside of the back cover.
Documents are bound between two wood covers connected by four screws at the left edge. Front cover is hinged to enable access. Documents are enclosed in plastic sleeves that have been stitched on three sides. Some sleeves contain more than one page/document. Thirty-one sleeves total. Book measures 26.75" x 21" x 2" and weighs approximately 15 lbs.
