LEGARE.034.1Description
B&W photograph of the Whaley-Lapham House (34 Legare Street), west (front) elevation.
Constructed ca. 1905 by Richard S. Whaley, son of the owner of 26 Legare Street, this stucco house was conveyed to the mother of Samuel S. Lapham, one of Charleston's leading restoration architects of the 20th century. This eclectic residence has Jacobean style and Craftsman detailing, with front curvilinear gable, large square dormers, and, in the Charleston tradition, a double-tiered side piazza.
