Constructed ca. 1760; altered 19th century; renovated late-1970s. Described with its outbuildings and called "a capital and well-known house" in a 1784 newspaper advertisement, this 3½ story Charleston single house was probably completed by 1760. Its ground story served as a bakery through most of the 19th century and as Schwettman's Drug Store from 1949 to the 1970s before the building was returned to residential use.
File contains house history (unattributed, undated); FOHG house histories (undated, 1998 draft, 2002); newspaper articles (including 1958 DYKYC); Rosen and Associates (engineers) inspection memorandum (1994); John B.P. Alley & Son Undertakers receipt (photocopy, 1881).Collection
