Copy of a letter dated March 21, 1968, from Charles H. Woodward to Rt. Rev. Gray Temple, Bishop of SC, in which he requests that the Reverend writes to the president of the Seaboard Coast Line regarding an unused lot on property owned by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. Mr. Woodward believes that the lot could be as a playground in a "colored neighborhood." Includes a sketch entitled "Vacant Lot Owned by Seaboard Coast Line Railroad in the City of Charleston, Adjoining New City Owned Public Housing Development.
While recognizing that the term "colored" was part of the vernacular of the time, Historic Charleston Foundation denounces the use of derogatory and racist language.Collection
